ECC Press Release on Preparations for Conducting Elections in the Year 1400

The ECC has made necessary preparation for conducting Wolesi Jirga (Ghazni), provincial councils, district councils and mayoral elections. The members of the administrative board of the ECC and Secretariat of the ECC, in coordination with other governmental stakeholder agencies and CSOs, stress on their commitment to ensuring electoral justice, transparency in the complaints adjudication process and building trust of people in the national process of elections.
Moreover, according to the decision taken in the meeting, which was held at the ECC HQ on Saturday, March 13, 2021, and attended by majority members, the administrative board retained their positions.
Based on the decision, and considering the spirit of article 29 of the Election Law, the administrative board members of the ECC (the chairperson, deputy chairperson and secretary) were elected as below:
- Ms. Zohra Bayan Shinwari as Chairperson of the ECC
- Mr. Maulawi Din Mohammad Azimi as Deputy Chairperson of the ECC
- Dr. Mohammad Qasim Ilyasi as Secretary and Spokesperson of the ECC
The ECC decision has stressed that the Administrative Board shall undertake the duties of the ECC assigned to them in light of effective orders and laws of the country and shall represent the ECC in official meetings.
The new leadership board of the ECC and the other commissioners reiterate that they will apply the lessons learned and experiences gained from the previous elections, will work according to the effective laws and electoral procedures as well as the ECC’s plan, and will seek to ensure electoral justice through establishing effective systems in coordination with all stakeholders of the complaints adjudication process.
